Ongar Tidy Towns: Let’s Come Together for Our Biggest Clean-Up Yet – Saturday 16th May 2026
Ongar Tidy Towns: Let’s Come Together for Our Biggest Clean-Up Yet – Saturday 16th May 2026
There’s something powerful about a community that rolls up its sleeves and takes pride in where it lives. In Ongar, that spirit has been growing stronger with every clean-up, every bag of litter collected, and every friendly face that shows up to help. Now, it’s time for our next big push—and you’re invited.
On Saturday 16th May 2026 at 11am, the Ongar Tidy Towns group will be gathering at the Ongar Basketball Courts for what promises to be one of our most impactful clean-up events yet. Whether you’ve joined us before or you’re thinking about coming along for the first time, this is your chance to make a real difference in your local area.
Why It Matters
We all notice it—litter in green spaces, discarded packaging along pathways, and the occasional trolley or bulky waste left where it doesn’t belong. These things don’t just affect how our neighbourhood looks; they impact wildlife, community pride, and how we feel walking through our own surroundings.
But here’s the good news: change happens quickly when people come together.
Every clean-up event we’ve held has shown just how much can be achieved in a short time. What might look like an overwhelming mess can be transformed in a matter of hours when a group of motivated locals gets stuck in. And beyond the physical transformation, there’s something even more important—the sense of ownership and connection it builds.
More Than Just Picking Up Litter
If you’ve never been to a tidy towns clean-up before, you might be picturing a quiet, solitary task. In reality, it’s anything but.
These events are:
Social – You’ll meet neighbours, make new connections, and share a few laughs along the way.
Active – It’s a great way to get moving outdoors without it feeling like a chore.
Rewarding – There’s nothing quite like seeing the immediate results of your effort.
Families are welcome, individuals are encouraged, and no experience is needed. Whether you can give 30 minutes or a couple of hours, it all counts.
What to Expect on the Day
When you arrive at the basketball courts at 11am, you’ll be greeted by the Ongar Tidy Towns team. Equipment such as bags, gloves, and litter pickers will typically be provided, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own.
You’ll then be grouped up and assigned areas around Ongar that need attention—this could include green spaces, pathways, or roadside areas that have built up litter over time.
The atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. There’s no pressure—just a shared goal to leave the area better than we found it.
Who Should Come?
Short answer: everyone.
Residents who want to keep their neighbourhood clean and welcoming
Families looking for a positive, community-focused activity
Young people who want to make a visible impact locally
Anyone new to the area hoping to meet people and get involved
You don’t need to commit long-term. Even showing up once makes a difference.
The Bigger Picture
Clean-ups like this aren’t just about one day—they’re part of a larger movement to build a stronger, more sustainable community.
Groups like Ongar Tidy Towns often work alongside local initiatives and organisations such as Fingal County Council to improve public spaces, promote recycling, and encourage responsible waste habits.
Every event sends a message:
We care about our area. We take pride in it. And we’re willing to do something about it.
Small Actions, Big Impact
It’s easy to underestimate what one person can do—but when dozens of people come together, the results speak for themselves.
Think about it:
One bag of rubbish removed is one less hazard for wildlife
One clean pathway makes the area more enjoyable for everyone
One visible effort encourages others to think twice before littering
And perhaps most importantly, it creates momentum. People notice when an area is looked after—and they’re more likely to respect it.
A Community Effort Worth Celebrating
If you’ve seen the difference recent clean-ups have made in Ongar, you’ll know this isn’t just talk—it’s real, visible change.
Areas that were once neglected are now cleaner, greener, and more inviting. And that transformation didn’t happen by accident—it happened because people like you showed up.
This next clean-up is an opportunity to build on that progress and take things even further.
How to Get Involved
It couldn’t be simpler:
📅 Date: Saturday 16th May 2026
⏰ Time: 11:00am
📍 Location: Ongar Basketball Courts
Just turn up on the day, ready to lend a hand. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes—you’ll be moving around a bit, but nothing too strenuous.
If you have questions or want to connect beforehand, you can reach out via email at ongartidytowns@gmail.com.
Final Thoughts
Communities don’t improve by chance—they improve by choice.
Choosing to spend a bit of your Saturday helping out might seem like a small thing, but it contributes to something much bigger. It helps shape the kind of place Ongar is—and the kind of place it will be in the future.
So if you’ve been thinking about getting involved, this is your moment.
Come along. Bring a friend. Bring the kids.
Let’s make this the biggest and best clean-up yet.
See you on the 16th.
A Quiet Transformation
Before and after
A Quiet Transformation: Thank You to the Fingal County Council Crew Who Cleaned Ongar Woods
There’s something powerful about walking through a place you know well and suddenly seeing it differently—not because it changed overnight by magic, but because someone put in the effort when no one was watching.
That’s exactly what happened recently in Ongar Woods.
For a long time, the woods had been struggling. What should have been a peaceful escape—a place for fresh air, dog walks, quiet thinking, and a break from the daily grind—had slowly become weighed down by neglect. Rubbish had built up over time: discarded packaging, bottles, cans, and even larger debris. Shopping trolleys, of all things, had found their way into the woods, left behind like symbols of carelessness. It wasn’t just an eyesore—it changed how the space felt.
There’s a difference between a wild space and a neglected one. Ongar Woods had begun drifting into the latter.
And then, something changed.
The Fingal County Council crew stepped in—and they didn’t just do a quick tidy-up. They showed up and did the kind of work that really matters. The kind of work that takes time, effort, and a willingness to deal with the mess others leave behind.
Now, walking through Ongar Woods feels different again.
You notice it straight away. The paths are clearer. The rubbish that once distracted your eye at every turn is gone. The trolleys—those strange, out-of-place intrusions—have been removed. What’s left is the woods itself: the trees, the open space, the sense of calm that was always there underneath it all, just waiting to be uncovered again.
It’s easy to underestimate what a clean environment does to your mindset. When a place is littered, it sends a subtle message: no one cares. And when people feel that, they’re less likely to care themselves. It becomes a cycle.
But when a place is looked after, it sends the opposite message: this matters.
And that message is powerful.
The work carried out by the Fingal County Council crew didn’t just remove rubbish—it reset the tone of the entire space. It reminded everyone who uses the woods that this is a shared environment worth respecting.
There’s also something worth saying about the kind of work this is. It’s not glamorous. It doesn’t come with big headlines or viral attention. It’s physical, often dirty, and probably thankless far more often than it should be. Clearing out waste, hauling abandoned trolleys, dealing with whatever has been dumped—it’s the sort of job many people would rather not think about, let alone do.
But without it, spaces like Ongar Woods don’t stand a chance.
That’s why this matters.
Because behind every clean park, every maintained walkway, every restored green space, there are people who showed up and did the work. People who chose to improve something rather than ignore it.
And the results speak for themselves.
Now, families can walk through the woods without stepping around rubbish. Dog walkers can enjoy the paths without frustration. Anyone looking for a bit of peace can actually find it again. The space feels safer, more welcoming, and more like what it was always meant to be.
It’s also a reminder—perhaps an uncomfortable one—that the condition of these places doesn’t just depend on councils or crews. It depends on all of us.
Because for every piece of rubbish removed, someone dropped it there in the first place.
That’s not said to take away from the achievement—quite the opposite. It highlights just how much effort was required to undo that damage. And it should make all of us think twice about how we treat shared spaces going forward.
There’s an opportunity here, now that the woods have been restored.
A clean slate, quite literally.
The challenge is to keep it that way. To respect the work that’s been done. To take responsibility, even in small ways—bringing rubbish home, calling out careless behaviour when appropriate, setting a better example.
Because maintaining a space is always harder than cleaning it once.
What the Fingal County Council crew have done is give Ongar Woods another chance. They’ve done the heavy lifting. They’ve reset the standard.
Now it’s up to the community to match that effort.
And let’s be honest—it’s much easier to look after something that already feels cared for.
There’s also something quietly inspiring about this kind of work. It proves that change doesn’t always have to be massive or dramatic. Sometimes, it’s about rolling up your sleeves and dealing with what’s right in front of you. Bit by bit, piece by piece, until the difference becomes undeniable.
That’s exactly what’s happened here.
Ongar Woods didn’t become perfect overnight—but it became better. And better is what leads to lasting change.
So this blog post is simple, but important.
A genuine thank you.
Thank you to the Fingal County Council crew for stepping in and doing the work that needed to be done. Thank you for restoring a space that so many people use and value. Thank you for improving not just the environment, but the experience of everyone who walks through it.
It hasn’t gone unnoticed.
In fact, it’s the kind of effort that people notice immediately—even if they don’t always say it out loud. The difference is visible. The impact is real.
And it matters.
Ongar Woods feels like itself again.
Cleaner. Calmer. More welcoming.
That doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens because people care enough to make it happen.
So here’s to the crew who made that difference—your work speaks louder than any blog post ever could. But it’s still worth saying:
Thank you.

Let’s Clean Ongar Before Mother’s Day
“Let’s Clean Ongar Before Mother’s Day!”
🌿 Join Us for the Ongar
Tidy Towns Community Clean-Up – Saturday 14th at 11am!
There’s something special about a community that comes
together to care for the place it calls home. In Ongar, we’re lucky to
have residents who genuinely care about our streets, green spaces, and
neighbourhood spirit. That’s exactly what Ongar Tidy Towns is all about.
This Saturday the 14th at 11am, we’re inviting
everyone—families, neighbours, students, and local businesses—to take part in
our next community clean-up event. Whether you’ve joined before or this
will be your very first time, we’d love to see you there.
You don’t need experience, special equipment, or hours of
spare time. All you need is a willingness to help keep Ongar looking its best.
Why Community Clean-Ups Matter
Litter might seem like a small issue at first glance, but it
can quickly have a big impact. When rubbish builds up, it affects:
- Local
wildlife
- The
appearance of our neighbourhood
- Community
pride
- Environmental
health
By participating in community initiatives like those
organised by Ongar Tidy Towns, residents can make a visible and
immediate difference.
Just one hour of teamwork can remove bags of litter, refresh
public spaces, and remind everyone that our community cares about the
environment.
Clean streets also encourage others to keep areas tidy. When
people see a well-maintained neighbourhood, they’re far less likely to litter.
It’s a simple but powerful cycle: care inspires more care.
Everyone Is Welcome
One of the best things about these clean-up days is how
inclusive they are.
You’ll see:
- Parents
and children working together
- Local
residents meeting neighbours for the first time
- Teenagers
earning volunteer hours
- Long-time
community members helping guide the effort
Community clean-ups are also a fantastic way to meet
people in Ongar and strengthen the sense of belonging in the area.
If you’re new to Ongar, this is one of the easiest
and most rewarding ways to get involved locally.
And if you’ve lived here for years, it’s a great opportunity
to give back to the community.
What Happens During the Clean-Up?
Our clean-up events are simple, friendly, and well
organised.
When you arrive on Saturday at 11am, volunteers will:
- Meet
at the designated meeting point
- Receive
gloves, litter pickers, and bags
- Get
assigned small areas to clean
- Work
in teams for about an hour
The atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. People chat,
laugh, and enjoy the fresh air while helping improve their neighbourhood.
You might be surprised how satisfying it feels to see a
once-littered path transformed into a clean and pleasant space.
Helping the Environment
Community clean-ups don’t just make places look nicer—they
also help protect nature.
Litter can harm birds, wildlife, and local ecosystems.
Plastics and other waste can take years, sometimes decades, to break down.
By removing rubbish from green spaces and footpaths,
volunteers help ensure that parks, hedgerows, and green areas remain safe
for wildlife.
Small local actions can contribute to a larger environmental
impact.
Together, we can help keep Ongar a cleaner, greener
place to live.
A Great Activity for Families
If you're looking for a meaningful activity this weekend,
why not bring the whole family?
Kids love using litter pickers and learning about protecting
the environment. It’s a hands-on way to teach responsibility, community pride,
and respect for shared spaces.
Many parents find that children enjoy the experience far
more than expected.
Plus, it’s a great way to spend time outdoors instead of
staying inside on screens.
The Power of Community Spirit
One of the most inspiring aspects of Ongar Tidy Towns
events is the sense of community they create.
Neighbours who may never have spoken before suddenly find
themselves working side-by-side for a common goal.
Local pride grows. Conversations start. Friendships form.
Over time, these small moments help build a stronger, more
connected community.
And that’s something truly valuable.
What to Bring
You don’t need much to participate, but here are a few
helpful suggestions:
✔ Comfortable clothing
✔ Weather-appropriate jacket
✔ Good walking shoes
✔ A positive attitude
Most equipment, including gloves and litter pickers, will be
provided.
If you already have your own gloves or grabber, feel free to
bring them along too.
The Impact Adds Up
You might think one clean-up won’t make much difference—but
it absolutely does.
Every bag of litter collected means:
- Less
pollution
- Cleaner
streets
- Safer
green spaces
- A
stronger community
And when many residents each contribute a little time, the
combined impact is huge.
Events like these have helped transform communities across
Ireland, especially through the national TidyTowns Ireland programme.
Join Us This Saturday
So why not join us this weekend?

welcoming for everyone.

Ongar Tidy Towns Welcomes SuperValu Hansfield to the Neighbourhood 🌿
Ongar Tidy Towns Welcomes SuperValu Hansfield to the Neighbourhood 🌿
There’s a real buzz around Ongar and Hansfield lately — and for good reason! The brand-new SuperValu store is getting ready to open its doors right here in Hansfield, and the whole community couldn’t be more excited.
As volunteers with Ongar Tidy Towns, we’d like to offer a very warm welcome to the SuperValu Hansfield team. We’ve been watching our area grow and change over the years, and this new store feels like another big step forward for our community.
A Great Addition to a Growing Area
Anyone who lives in Ongar, Hansfield, Barnwell, or Clonsilla knows just how fast this area has developed in recent years. New homes, schools, parks, and playgrounds have all helped create a lively, family-friendly place to live. Having a SuperValu nearby will make life that bit easier — whether you’re doing your weekly shop, grabbing something fresh for dinner, or just popping in for a chat with familiar faces.
SuperValu has built a strong reputation in Ireland for supporting local communities, and that’s exactly what we love to see here in Ongar. It’s not just about groceries — it’s about being part of the neighbourhood and creating a welcoming space where people can connect.
Jobs, Opportunities, and Local Pride
One of the best parts of any new store opening is the new jobs it brings. SuperValu Hansfield will offer a range of opportunities for local people — from students looking for part-time work to those building long-term careers in retail. Having employment close to home means less commuting, more time with family, and stronger local ties.
And let’s not forget SuperValu’s commitment to supporting Irish producers. We love knowing that much of what we’ll find on the shelves — from fresh fruit and veg to meat, dairy, and baked goods — will come from Irish farms and small businesses. It’s a win-win for everyone: shoppers get fresh, home-grown produce, and local suppliers get the support they need to keep thriving.
A Shared Focus on Sustainability 🌱
At Ongar Tidy Towns, we’re passionate about keeping our community clean, green, and full of life. That’s why we’re especially happy to see SuperValu’s strong commitment to sustainability.
From reducing plastic packaging to improving energy efficiency and promoting recycling, SuperValu has been a real leader in environmental awareness across Ireland. Their national Tidy Towns Sponsorship Programme has helped countless community groups — including ones like ours — to fund projects, plant flowers, and take better care of local biodiversity.
We can already see the potential for great collaboration between Ongar Tidy Towns and SuperValu Hansfield. Together, we could run clean-up days, planting projects, or educational events around recycling and sustainability. It’s always great when local businesses and community volunteers work side by side — it makes a real difference to how our area looks and feels.
Convenience Meets Community
For many residents, this new SuperValu will make everyday life that bit easier. No more long drives just to do the big shop! The store will offer everything from fresh produce, deli and bakery counters, to everyday essentials — all under one roof.
We also love that SuperValu stores tend to have a real community feel. They’re not just places to shop, but places where people meet, chat, and stay connected. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee on the go, browsing the bakery, or bumping into neighbours in the aisles, SuperValu Hansfield will quickly become part of our daily routine.
Building Stronger Local Partnerships
Here at Ongar Tidy Towns, we know how much can be achieved when people work together. Over the years, we’ve seen volunteers, schools, residents, and local businesses all pitch in to keep Ongar and Hansfield looking their best.
With SuperValu now joining the neighbourhood, there’s a wonderful opportunity to build new partnerships that benefit everyone. We’d love to work with the team on community clean-ups, flower planting, biodiversity trails, and maybe even local events that bring people together.
SuperValu has a long history of supporting community projects across Ireland, so we’re excited to see how that spirit of generosity will take root here in Hansfield.
Looking Ahead
There’s a real sense of optimism around this new opening. Local residents are already talking about it on community pages, and many have said how much they’re looking forward to having a reliable, Irish-owned supermarket so close to home.
The store will also bring extra life and activity to the wider Ongar area — helping other local businesses, cafes, and services by encouraging more people to shop and spend time locally.
It’s another reminder that Ongar and Hansfield aren’t just growing in size — we’re growing in community spirit too. Every new development, every new neighbour, adds another piece to the story of our area.
A Warm Welcome from Ongar Tidy Towns 💚
On behalf of everyone at Ongar Tidy Towns, we want to say a huge welcome to SuperValu Hansfield. We’re thrilled to see this new chapter for our community and can’t wait to visit once the doors officially open.
We hope the team will feel at home here — because Hansfield is a place that cares about people, the environment, and supporting local businesses. Together, we can keep building a neighbourhood we’re all proud of.
So from all of us — volunteers, neighbours, and proud locals — welcome, SuperValu! We can’t wait to see you open your doors and join the Ongar and Hansfield family.

Ongar Tidy Towns Welcomes SuperValu to Hansfield – A Fresh Boost for Our Growing Community
Ongar Tidy Towns Welcomes SuperValu to Hansfield – A Fresh Boost for Our Growing Community
The Ongar Tidy Towns Committee is delighted to extend a warm welcome to SuperValu’s brand-new store in Hansfield – an exciting addition to our ever-growing local community. As one of Ireland’s most trusted and community-oriented retailers, SuperValu’s arrival marks a fresh chapter for Hansfield and the wider Ongar area. Their commitment to local produce, sustainability, and community engagement aligns perfectly with our own values here in Ongar Tidy Towns, where we take pride in building cleaner, greener, and more connected neighbourhoods.
A Welcome Addition to Hansfield and Ongar
Hansfield and Ongar have experienced remarkable growth in recent years, with new homes, schools, and amenities shaping a vibrant, family-friendly area in the heart of Dublin 15. The addition of SuperValu Hansfield comes at the perfect time, bringing convenience, choice, and community spirit to residents who call this area home.
The new store will not only offer a fantastic range of groceries, fresh produce, and household essentials but will also provide employment opportunities and a welcome boost to the local economy. It’s great to see a brand like SuperValu, known for its “Real Food, Real People” ethos, investing in our community and helping to make Hansfield and Ongar even better places to live, work, and shop.
Supporting Local, the SuperValu Way
One of the hallmarks of SuperValu’s success is its dedication to supporting Irish suppliers and local producers. The Hansfield store continues this proud tradition by stocking a wide range of locally sourced meats, fruit, vegetables, and artisan products. This not only ensures freshness and quality for customers but also helps sustain small Irish farms and businesses.
As advocates for sustainability and community wellbeing, Ongar Tidy Towns is especially pleased to see SuperValu’s strong environmental commitment. From reducing single-use plastics to encouraging recycling and promoting reusable packaging, their green initiatives complement our own ongoing work to create a cleaner, more eco-friendly Ongar and Hansfield.
Building Stronger Communities Together
SuperValu has long been recognised for its community partnerships, from sponsoring the Tidy Towns competition to supporting local sports clubs, charities, and schools. Their national “SuperValu Tidy Towns” sponsorship has helped thousands of groups like ours to enhance their local environments and celebrate community pride.
The arrival of SuperValu Hansfield gives us an exciting opportunity to collaborate on local projects and environmental initiatives. We look forward to exploring ways in which our organisations can work hand-in-hand to promote litter-free streets, pollinator-friendly planting, and green community spaces throughout the Ongar–Hansfield area.
A Sustainable Store for a Sustainable Future
In keeping with modern SuperValu standards, the Hansfield store features energy-efficient lighting, refrigeration, and waste management systems, helping to reduce its carbon footprint. The emphasis on sustainability goes beyond the store’s design — it’s part of their day-to-day operation, from eco-friendly cleaning products to the promotion of locally sourced food.
At Ongar Tidy Towns, we’re particularly inspired by this commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. We believe that every business in our area plays a vital role in shaping the future of our community. By choosing greener practices, supporting local suppliers, and fostering community engagement, SuperValu Hansfield is setting an example for others to follow.
A Hub for the Community
Beyond the groceries and great deals, SuperValu Hansfield promises to be a true community hub — a place where neighbours meet, friends catch up, and local news is shared. The store’s team have already shown their enthusiasm for getting involved in community life, and we have no doubt they’ll become a familiar and friendly presence in Ongar and Hansfield.
Whether it’s through charity fundraisers, local sponsorships, or simple acts of kindness, SuperValu stores across Ireland have a long-standing tradition of giving back. We’re confident the Hansfield team will continue that spirit, working closely with residents, schools, and organisations like ours to make a lasting positive impact.
Looking Ahead
As Ongar continues to develop and thrive, we’re proud to see businesses like SuperValu investing in the area and helping to create a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community. The future of Ongar and Hansfield is bright — with local initiatives, green spaces, and businesses all playing their part to make this one of Dublin’s most desirable neighbourhoods.
Ongar Tidy Towns remains committed to promoting community pride and environmental awareness. Together with local partners, residents, and now our new neighbours at SuperValu Hansfield, we’ll continue to work towards a cleaner, greener, and even more welcoming community.
So, from all of us at Ongar Tidy Towns — welcome, SuperValu Hansfield! We wish the management and staff every success and look forward to collaborating in the months and years ahead.

Ongar Playground Gets a Fantastic Upgrade — A Huge Thank You to Fingal!
Ongar Playground Gets a Fantastic Upgrade — A Huge Thank You to Fingal!
We’re delighted to share the brilliant news that our much-loved playground has received a major upgrade, and it looks absolutely fantastic.
On behalf of everyone at Ongar Tidy Towns, we want to say a massive thank you to Fingal County Council for supporting and funding this wonderful project.
This upgrade isn’t just about new equipment — it’s about giving families and children in Ongar a safe, inclusive and exciting place to play, explore and make memories. 🌿🛝
Why This Upgrade Matters 💚
For years, Ongar playground has been a place where families come together — after-school playdates, weekend adventures, or summer picnics on the grass. It’s a space where kids can just be kids.
The new improvements make the playground safer, greener and even more fun for everyone. Whether you’re swinging, climbing, or simply relaxing while the little ones play, this space has something for all ages and abilities.
What’s New 🆕
Here’s a quick look at some of the fantastic upgrades:
-
🛝 New Play Equipment – Fresh swings, slides, and climbing structures to spark imagination and energy.
-
🌿 Greener & Cleaner – New planting, pollinator-friendly flower beds, and better landscaping to create a welcoming, nature-friendly space.
-
♿ More Accessible – Ramps, inclusive equipment, and open pathways so everyone can enjoy the playground equally.
-
🪑 New Seating Areas – Improved benches and shaded spots so parents and carers can relax while the kids play.
All of this has been designed with community, safety and the environment in mind.
A Real Community Effort 🤝
None of this would have been possible without the brilliant support of Fingal County Council. Their investment in local spaces like this is what keeps communities like Ongar thriving.
We also want to give a huge shout-out to local families, schools and community members who shared their feedback and ideas. You helped shape a playground that truly reflects what Ongar values — play, connection and community pride.
Ongar Tidy Towns ❤️ Community
At Ongar Tidy Towns, we believe local action creates real change. While the funding came from Fingal, it’s the community spirit that brings spaces like this to life.
Our volunteers work hard all year — planting, painting, cleaning and caring for Ongar. This playground upgrade is a boost of energy and inspiration to keep going strong.
We’d love more people to get involved! If you can give even an hour a month, your time can help keep Ongar looking beautiful. 🌸
Playgrounds Build Stronger Communities 🏃♂️🏃♀️
A playground isn’t just a bunch of swings and slides — it’s where children grow in confidence, learn to share, and build friendships. It’s also where parents and neighbours meet, talk, and feel connected.
By investing in safe, modern play spaces, we’re investing in our children’s health, happiness and future. This upgrade is part of a bigger vision to make Ongar one of the most family-friendly, green and vibrant communities in Fingal.
Looking Ahead 🌱
The new playground is just the beginning. Ongar Tidy Towns is working closely with Fingal County Council to keep improving our public spaces.
Future community plans include:
Every project like this strengthens Ongar’s identity as a community that cares.

Ongar Tidy Towns Celebrates Community Credit Union Support at New Playground
Ongar Tidy Towns Celebrates Community Credit Union Support at New Playground
At Ongar Tidy Towns, we are passionate about making our community a cleaner, greener, and more welcoming place to live. Every flower planted, every litter pick organised, and every project completed is driven by one goal – to make Ongar shine. This week, we are absolutely delighted to share some exciting news: Community Credit Union has generously supported Ongar Tidy Towns with a donation that will go directly towards helping us continue our work in the area.
To mark this fantastic partnership, we recently met with the Community Credit Union team for a photoshoot at the new Ongar playground, which is currently under construction. This playground will be an incredible addition to Ongar and Dublin 15 – a vibrant, safe, and fun space where families can spend time outdoors, children can play, and neighbours can connect. Standing together at the playground site felt like the perfect way to celebrate the collaboration between Ongar Tidy Towns and Community Credit Union.
Building Strong Community Partnerships
Support like this doesn’t just provide funding – it builds confidence, motivation, and momentum for everything we do. The generous donation from Community Credit Union means we can continue to invest in local tidy towns projects, environmental initiatives, and community improvements that make Ongar a better place for everyone.
We often say that tidy towns is more than planting flowers and sweeping paths. It’s about creating pride of place, nurturing connections between neighbours, and building something that will last for future generations. That’s why partnerships are so important. When a community-focused organisation like Community Credit Union steps forward, it sends a clear message: we believe in this place, and we believe in the people who live here.
Community Credit Union has always been at the heart of local life, offering services and support to families and businesses across Dublin 15 and beyond. Their values of community, trust, and support align perfectly with what we do at Ongar Tidy Towns. We’re not just keeping Ongar tidy – we’re helping create a place that people are proud to call home.
Ongar Playground – A New Chapter for Our Area
The backdrop for our photoshoot with Community Credit Union was the new Ongar playground, which is already bringing excitement to families across the area. Ongar has grown rapidly in recent years, and the addition of a safe, accessible, and modern playground is something we know the community has been looking forward to for a long time.
Playgrounds are more than just swings and slides. They are spaces where children develop skills, families make memories, and neighbours meet. Having this new playground in Ongar will bring people together, encourage outdoor play, and give our tidy towns work even more purpose – because a well-kept, attractive community space is something we can all enjoy.
At Ongar Tidy Towns, we are already planning how we can complement the playground with planting, landscaping, and ongoing care to ensure it looks its best all year round. With support from Community Credit Union, these plans will become a reality sooner, and the results will benefit everyone in our community.
Why Community Support Matters
One of the most rewarding parts of being involved in Ongar Tidy Towns is seeing the power of community spirit in action. Every time a volunteer joins a litter pick, every time a local business donates materials or sponsorship, and every time residents cheer us on, we are reminded that Ongar is full of people who care.
The donation from Community Credit Union is another example of how local organisations can make a big difference. This kind of support allows us to:
-
Invest in seasonal planting projects that brighten up Ongar village and surrounding estates.
-
Continue organising regular clean-up days to tackle litter and maintain our public spaces.
-
Support the development of biodiversity initiatives, such as wildflower planting and pollinator-friendly areas.
-
Enhance public spaces like parks, walkways, and community facilities so that they are welcoming and well cared for.
-
Raise awareness about the importance of sustainability, recycling, and community pride.
Without partners like Community Credit Union, these projects would be much harder to achieve. Their support reminds us that tidy towns is a collective effort – when residents, businesses, and community organisations come together, we can make Ongar a model of what local pride can accomplish.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Credit Union for their generosity, encouragement, and belief in Ongar Tidy Towns. Meeting them at the new playground was a wonderful experience, and we are excited about the future possibilities this partnership brings.
We know that many people in Ongar are already members of Community Credit Union and rely on their services. Their ongoing investment back into the community shows that they are not just a financial institution, but a partner in building a stronger, more connected place for us all.
Looking Ahead
The journey doesn’t stop here. Ongar Tidy Towns has many projects lined up for the coming months, from seasonal planting to clean-up campaigns and biodiversity initiatives. We will also be working closely with Fingal County Council and local groups to ensure the new playground becomes a centrepiece of pride for our area.
With the continued support of organisations like Community Credit Union – and the incredible volunteers and residents who give their time and energy – we know that Ongar will continue to thrive.
We invite everyone in the community to get involved with Ongar Tidy Towns. Whether you can give a few hours to help with a project, join us for a litter pick, or simply spread the word about what we do, every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can make Ongar one of the cleanest, greenest, and friendliest areas in Dublin 15.
Conclusion – Growing Stronger Together
The support we have received from Community Credit Union is about more than money. It’s about building a relationship, sharing values, and working together to create a brighter future for Ongar. Standing together at the site of the new playground reminded us of what tidy towns is all about: community, collaboration, and pride of place.
As Ongar continues to grow and evolve, Ongar Tidy Towns will remain dedicated to ensuring that our community is looked after, loved, and celebrated. With partners like Community Credit Union by our side, the future looks very bright indeed.
✨ Once again, a sincere thank you to Community Credit Union for believing in us and supporting Ongar Tidy Towns. We are proud to call you a partner in making Ongar the very best it can be.

A New Playground for Ongar – Building a Brighter Future
A New Playground for Ongar – Building a Brighter Future
There is a real sense of excitement in Ongar at the moment as work begins on a brand-new playground for our community. For years, families have wished for more safe and fun spaces for children to play, and now, that dream is becoming a reality. The new playground is not just about swings and slides; it represents an important step forward in making Ongar a more welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly place to live.
Why a Playground Matters
Playgrounds are often thought of as simple spaces for children, but in reality, they bring so much more to a community. For children, they offer a safe environment to run, climb, and explore. Outdoor play supports both physical health and mental wellbeing, helping young people to build social skills, confidence, and friendships. In a world where screens so often dominate, having a safe and engaging outdoor space encourages children to get fresh air and exercise.
For parents and families, playgrounds provide a much-needed meeting point. They become places where neighbours get to know each other, where conversations spark between parents, and where community bonds strengthen. Playgrounds also add to the identity of an area. They are a visible sign of investment, care, and forward planning – a space that shows the community is valued and growing.
The Vision for Ongar’s Playground
This new project will deliver a modern playground designed with safety, inclusivity, and sustainability in mind. From the plans we’ve seen, the playground will include:
-
A wide variety of play equipment suitable for different age groups, from toddlers to older children.
-
Inclusive features so that children of all abilities can take part in the fun. This is a key aspect, as play should be for everyone.
-
Durable, eco-friendly materials that will ensure the equipment lasts while also reducing environmental impact.
-
Plenty of green landscaping, meaning the playground will not just be fun but also beautiful, fitting seamlessly into Ongar’s wider tidy towns vision.
As part of Ongar Tidy Towns, we are especially pleased to see how much thought has gone into creating a space that reflects our community’s values. We are committed to making Ongar greener, cleaner, and more welcoming, and this playground project is perfectly in line with that mission.
The Benefits for Ongar
The arrival of this new playground will mean so much for the people who live here. It will:
-
Give children a safe space to play away from busy roads and traffic.
-
Encourage outdoor activity, which is vital for health and happiness.
-
Support families, making Ongar an even more attractive place to raise children.
-
Create a new meeting point for neighbours and friends, helping community spirit to thrive.
-
Add value to the area, as well-maintained public spaces make Ongar a more desirable place to live.
In many ways, the playground is not just for children – it is for everyone. Even those without young families will benefit from the sense of community it brings. A lively, happy, and active space adds to the overall atmosphere of the area.
Progress and Next Steps
Construction has already started, and residents may have noticed the work being carried out on the site. Over the coming weeks, we will see the space take shape, with equipment installed and the surrounding landscape prepared.
Ongar Tidy Towns will be keeping a close eye on developments. We plan to share regular updates on our blog and Facebook page, including photographs of the work as it progresses. Once the playground is completed, we hope to mark the occasion with a community celebration. After all, this project belongs to everyone in Ongar – it is something we can all be proud of.
How You Can Get Involved
This is a wonderful moment for Ongar, but it is also a reminder of how much can be achieved when a community works together. Ongar Tidy Towns is always looking for new volunteers to help keep our area looking its best. From litter picks to planting flowers, from supporting local projects to promoting sustainability, every little bit makes a difference.
If you would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us at Ongartidytowns@gmail.com or find us on Facebook to see our latest updates.
Whether you have an hour a week or an hour a month, your support will help us to continue building a better Ongar for everyone.
Looking Ahead
The new playground is only one piece of Ongar’s future, but it is an important one. It represents investment in young people, in families, and in community spirit. It shows that Ongar is a place that values its residents, cares about quality of life, and is willing to invest in public spaces.
As the playground takes shape, we look forward to the day when the laughter of children fills the air, when parents meet for chats on the benches, and when neighbours come together in a shared space designed for joy. This is not just a playground – it is the heart of a growing, thriving Ongar.
Together, we are building more than play equipment. We are building memories, connections, and a brighter future.

Join Us This Sunday for an Hour of Power! 💪🗑️
Join Us This Sunday for an Hour of Power! 💪🗑️
Ongar residents, it's time to come together once again and show our love for our local community! This Sunday at 10:30 AM, we’re calling on all friends, neighbours, families and volunteers to join Ongar Tidy Towns for our next big Litter Pick.
Let’s meet at the Basketball Courts in Ongar Village and take part in what we like to call an Hour of Power – just 60 minutes of positive action to help make Ongar a cleaner, safer and more beautiful place to live.
It might not seem like much, but an hour really can make a world of difference. Whether it’s discarded takeaway wrappers, forgotten drink bottles, or bits of plastic hiding in the bushes – every piece of rubbish we collect is one less blight on our streets and green spaces.
Why get involved?
Because this isn’t just about picking up litter. It’s about community pride, meeting like-minded neighbours, and showing younger generations the value of looking after where we live. It's also a great way to get some fresh air, light exercise, and good craic – all while doing something amazing for Ongar.
And there’s more! Our Litter Picks are just one part of what Ongar Tidy Towns does. From fundraising projects and community planting to our anti-graffiti campaigns and public awareness drives, we’re working all year round to promote pride in our area. Every bag filled on Sunday helps our entry in the national Tidy Towns competition too – and with your help, we can make Ongar shine even brighter!
All ages are welcome – we’ll provide gloves, bags, and litter pickers. Just bring comfy shoes and a smile!
So set your alarms and gather your gang – see you this Sunday at 10:30 AM at the Basketball Courts for a feel-good Hour of Power that really matters.
Let’s keep Making Ongar a Beautiful Place to Live – one piece of litter at a time!
For any queries or to get involved in future events, drop us an email at ongartidytowns@gmail.com.
